The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a suspected notorious assassin, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso, before the Ogba Magistrate Court on 11 counts of murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and attempted murder.

The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that the suspect was apprehended in a covert tactical operation tagged “Silence, Speed and Surprise” in Agbado, Ogun State, after months of evading arrest.

Akinwande, 44, described as the “most wanted vicious and notorious assassin” in Mushin and surrounding areas, was arrested with a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, a K2 assault rifle, locally made pistols, ammunition, walkie-talkies, and a poisonous dagger.

According to Hundeyin, the suspect has been linked to multiple high-profile killings, including the alleged murder of Bankole Yusuf and Ramadan Yusuf on July 31, 2024, and the 2010 killing of 10-year-old Aminat Lateef in Fadeyi.

One of the charges also accuses Akinwande of shooting a 58-year-old woman, Awawu Ajalara, in both legs during a 2011 attack, leaving her permanently disabled.

“These offences span over a decade of violent criminal activity and include several fatal shootings carried out with military-grade weapons,” the police stated.

The prosecution emphasized that the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the possession of the arms recovered from him, which are suspected to have been used in a long trail of gang-related violence and targeted assassinations.

Akinwande is to remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
