The Lagos State Government has announced a two-day traffic detour on Victoria Island for the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship (E1 Series), scheduled October 4-5 on the Lagoon’s inland waters.
Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi said Lekki 1st junction, leading to Ozumba Mbadiwe, will be fully closed. Drivers from Ajah to Lekki should make a U-turn at the junction and use alternate routes via Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and Onikan.
Alternate routes were also provided from Lekki to Ikoyi, the mainland, and for truckers traveling to CMS from Ajah. Motorists entering Lekki-Epe Expressway from CMS, Independence Bridge, or Ozumba Mbadiwe will face no restrictions.
Designated parking will be available at the Nigerian Law School, Access Bank, and Fidelity Bank. LASTMA officers will monitor all routes, while Coastal Road remains open. Osiyemi urged drivers to cooperate and remain patient throughout the event.
The E1 Series is the first international electric powerboat championship, featuring battery-powered hydrofoil boats reaching 93 km/h while reducing carbon emissions, noise, and drag.
Nigeria becomes the first African nation to host the series, which encourages gender-balanced teams, eco-friendly innovation, tourism, and strengthens Lagos’ reputation as a cultural and economic hub.
