According to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is starting a planned maintenance operation that is anticipated to last four days, which could cause an intermittent blackout in some areas of Lagos. EKEDC sent out a customer notification on Friday, stating that the outage will occur every day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday, July 28 until Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The business clarified that the interruption is required to enable TCN to do essential repairs on the 330kV power line between Omotosho and Ikeja West. It is anticipated that the repair work would cause load shedding and sporadic power outages throughout EKEDC’s distribution network, which serves important parts of Lagos.
“Kindly be informed that there will be a planned outage by our partner, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)… to enable works to be safely carried out,” EKEDC stated in the message.
While maintenance is necessary to ensure the long-term dependability of the region’s electricity infrastructure, consumers have been cautioned to be ready for any interruptions during the impacted time.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Do kindly bear with us,” the company continued.
In Nigeria’s commercial capital, where families and companies frequently rely on backup generators because of the unpredictable nature of the grid power, the scheduled outage exacerbates the existing worries about the reliability of the electrical supply.
