The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all affiliate unions to prepare for industrial action against the Dangote Group.

NLC president Joe Ajaero issued the directive in a memo on Monday. He accused Dangote Refinery of sacking union workers, violating Nigeria’s labor laws, breaching the constitution, and defying international labor conventions.

The union accused Dangote facilities of becoming “plantations of exploitation” that crush workers’ dignity for profit.

The memo read: “The Dangote Group has operated for too long as a state within a state, flouting Section 40 of our Constitution, violating ILO Conventions 87 and 98, and treating our national labour laws with contempt.

“The time for pleading and endless, fruitless dialogue is over. The moment for decisive, collective action is now. Consequently, we have resolved as follows: Request for total mobilisation of all unions and workers. We place all affiliate unions on immediate alert and request you to begin vigorous, comprehensive unionisation of all Dangote workers. This is a strategic priority.”

The NLC urged members to gather resources for “a full-scale, decisive engagement against the Dangote Group’s anti-labor stance.”

It demanded Dangote respect workers’ union rights, end victimization, stop intimidation, and cease union-busting practices across all company facilities.
