Former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has dismissed rumors of defection and restated his commitment to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso said the NNPP remains strong in Kano and other states. His remarks followed widespread speculation that he was preparing to make a major decision about his political future.

“A lot of people came here expecting an announcement,” Kwankwaso said. “But let me be clear, we have our party, and we are comfortable. We are happy. We are not in a hurry.”

The NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate emphasized that any negotiations ahead of the 2027 elections would not be personal but collective. “If there will be any negotiation, it will involve the entire NNPP family, not just a few individuals,” he added.

Kwankwaso stressed that no member of his political movement, Kwankwasiyya, or the NNPP leadership had indicated plans to leave the party.

He also cautioned members against being misled by politicians frequently switching parties. “Those people don’t have much experience,” he said. “They believe they know, but they don’t. If they are interested in learning, they should come and ask us.”

Kwankwaso’s comments aim to strengthen party unity and dispel speculation as the NNPP positions itself for the 2027 general elections.
