The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two people were killed and 10 others injured in a fatal auto crash that occurred along Ringim-Kano Road in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The state Sector Commander, Umar Mas’ud, told journalists in Dutse on Friday that the crash happened at about 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, and involved two Volkswagen cars. He blamed the accident on overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.

“Thirteen people were involved in the incident. Sadly, two died, and 10 sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Mas’ud said.

All passengers in the accident were reported to be from Bareda village in Ikara LGA, Kaduna State.

In a remarkable display of transparency, the FRSC recovered ₦2.1 million belonging to one of the deceased and a survivor. The money was later returned to the victims’ relatives in the presence of Divisional Police Officer ASP Abdullahi Ibrahim.

“Our rescue team recovered ₦2,166,700 during the operation. After proper investigation and verification, we returned the money to the families,” the Sector Commander said.

Mas’ud praised the FRSC Unit Command for their integrity and professionalism, reiterating the Corps’ commitment to public service.

He also said the Jigawa auto crash is a wake up call to motorists, urging them to avoid overspeeding and reckless overtaking, warning that most road crashes are preventable if safety guidelines are observed.
