The Imo State Government has raised the minimum wage for workers from ₦70,000 to ₦104,000, a move aimed at improving welfare and living standards.
Governor Hope Uzodimma announced the decision on Tuesday during a pivotal meeting with labor leaders at Government House in Owerri. He described the increase as part of his administration’s commitment to workers’ wellbeing.
In addition to the minimum wage raise, Uzodimma approved ₦16 billion for the immediate payment of all outstanding gratuities to state pensioners.
Labor leaders at the meeting welcomed the announcement with songs of unity, hailing it as a landmark decision that would significantly improve the lives of workers and retirees in the state.
Those present included State NLC Chairman Uche Chigemezu, State TUC Chairman Uchenna Ibe, State NUP Chairman Josiah Ugochukwu, and State NMA Chairman Barth Echeta.
