The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached alarming levels, as thousands of babies face starvation due to a severe shortage of baby formula. Health officials in Gaza are raising the alarm as Israel’s ongoing blockade prevents critical infant nutrition and medical supplies from entering the territory.
Hospitals across Gaza, including Al-Awda Hospital, are overwhelmed with cases of severely malnourished infants. Medical workers report that many of these babies have gone days without access to proper nourishment, putting their lives at immediate risk.
On July 1, at least 95 Palestinians were killed in multiple Israeli airstrikes across the region. Among the dead were dozens of civilians who had gathered at food aid distribution centers. In one of the deadliest attacks, Israeli fighter jets bombed an internet café where a children’s birthday party was taking place, killing 39 people, including many children.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, the total death toll from Israel’s military operations has now exceeded 56,500, with over 133,000 people injured. These figures continue to climb daily as airstrikes and ground offensives persist across the Gaza Strip.
The conflict, which began in October 2023 following a deadly Hamas-led attack that left over 1,100 Israelis dead and more than 200 taken hostage, has now created one of the most dire humanitarian emergencies in recent memory.
Despite international efforts to broker a ceasefire, negotiations have stalled. Hamas officials have accused Israel of deliberately sabotaging peace talks and prolonging the conflict. They maintain their willingness to reach a truce that would prevent further civilian deaths.
The blockade and targeting of aid infrastructure have triggered widespread condemnation and protests worldwide. In New York and other major cities, demonstrators are urging the United Nations to act and end what many are calling a genocide in Gaza.
Global humanitarian organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, are demanding immediate access to Gaza to deliver life-saving aid. They warn that the continued blockade, combined with the destruction of healthcare infrastructure and skyrocketing food insecurity, could cause a massive spike in child mortality and long-term developmental damage.
Experts say the inability to distribute baby formula and basic nutrition is not just a health emergency but a direct threat to an entire generation.

- 56,531 Palestinians killed since October 2023
- 133,642 injured in the ongoing conflict

As the world watches, the call for urgent international intervention grows louder.
