Governor Siminalayi Fubara has disbanded the extended State Executive Council (SEC) in Rivers State. The move followed his return to office after President Bola Tinubu’s six-month suspension.
Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, announced that the decision takes effect immediately. Commissioners, special advisers, and other officials affected by the Supreme Court ruling lost their positions.
These officials had earlier vacated office during the emergency rule declared on March 18. Observers had expected Fubara to retain some cabinet members, but concerns grew about possible influence from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
At a farewell session in Port Harcourt, the governor thanked the outgoing cabinet for their service. He praised their contributions to Rivers State politics and development over the past two years.
Fubara urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu in building a peaceful and prosperous nation. He also wished citizens a happy Independence anniversary, stressing unity and renewed commitment.
Nelson Chukwudi confirmed, “The governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.”
Governor Fubara ended his address by reaffirming his dedication to serving Rivers State with new energy and vision.
