Umaru Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, has declared that corps members serving in the state would henceforth get a monthly allowance of ₦30,000 instead of ₦20,000. When Governor Fintiri opened the 2025 Batch B Stream I, NYSC Orientation camp in Damare, Adamawa State, on Friday, he made the statement.

“Today, I declared open the 2025 Batch B Stream I NYSC Orientation in Damare.” the governor said in a tweet posted on his official X (previously Twitter) account.

“I announced an increase in corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000. We’re also set to build a new NYSC camp, with professionals in relevant fields engaged in the project.”

Akwa Ibom raised the state’s corps members’ monthly stipend to ₦20,000 a few weeks prior to this hike. According to Governor Umo Eno, the increase was made to enable corps members fulfill their basic necessities by supporting the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance.

“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” Eno said.

In 1973, the NYSC was created as a mandatory one-year program for Nigerian graduates. It is intended for people who completed their education prior to turning thirty.

Corps members are typically sent to states outside of their region to perform community service; it was established to promote unity and national integration.
