Plans to revitalize the Kaduna textile sector have been launched by the federal government as part of a larger industrialization initiative meant to promote equitable national growth. The declaration follows accusations made by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano and NNPP presidential candidate, that President Bola Tinubu’s administration ignores the north while focusing development efforts on the south.

In remarks made Tuesday in Kaduna at a two-day interactive session on government-citizen interaction, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume stated that Tinubu is dedicated to balanced national development and would not abandon any area.

The government intends to revitalize once-thriving industries in the north, including the well-known Kaduna Textile, as part of efforts to diversify the economy, according to Akume, who led a delegation of northern appointees in the Tinubu administration to the forum hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF).

Akume stated, “We are looking at those days of Kaduna Textile and many other industrialised areas in the north.”

“We intend to revisit those good old days of Kaduna Textile to further boost and solidify the country’s economy via industrialisation.”

He said that in order to guarantee that Nigeria experiences “holistic development in all spheres of endeavors,” the Tinubu administration is working in eight crucial areas. “These and many more will be achieved by the administration of Tinubu, who after two years and two months in office has achieved so much” he said.

Once one of the biggest employers in northern Nigeria, Kaduna Textile Limited has been in decline for many years as a result of bad management, inconsistent policies, and changes in the economy. Previous governments’ attempts to revitalize the sector have not produced long-lasting effects.
