Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, was cleared of all money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The court upheld a no-case submission submitted by Fayose’s legal team on Tuesday morning, ruling that the EFCC had not proven a sufficient case to force the former governor to enter a defense.
Due to accusations of fraud and money laundering that he allegedly committed while in office, Fayose had been on trial for a number of years.
He was completely acquitted, though, after the court determined that the prosecution’s evidence was insufficient to support the charges.
