The All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed six new members to the House of Representatives. Among them are five lawmakers from Enugu State who defected from the Labour Party (LP). Governor Peter Mbah witnessed their defection at the green chamber.
The defectors include Obetta Chidi, Anayo Onwuegbu, Dennis Agbo, Martins George, and Nnaji Nnolim—all from Enugu. Daniel Asama from Plateau State also joined the APC.
Two weeks earlier, Governor Mbah had left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC. He addressed the public in a statewide broadcast, explaining his decision:
“There comes always a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.
“After much deliberation, we have decided to join the All Progressives Congress and quit the Peoples Democratic Party today,” he said.
The governor emphasized the need to align Enugu with the federal government for better development.
This wave of defections isn’t isolated. In July, seven lawmakers from Akwa Ibom State also joined the APC. Governor Umo Eno led the move. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo came from the APC, while Unyime Idem, Martins Esin, Paul Ekpo, Uduak Odudoh, Okpolu Etteha, and Bassey Okon left the PDP.
Similarly, six Delta State House members defected from the PDP to the APC in May. These shifts reflect a growing trend of political realignment across Nigeria.
