England Win Women’s Euro 2025 After Beating Spain

At Basel’s St. Jakob-Park Stadium, England’s Lionesses have once again made football history by winning the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 championship after a thrilling 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Spain after a tense 1-1 draw in extra time.

Spain took the lead in the thrilling final thanks to a header from Mariona Caldentey in the 25th minute that caught the English defense off guard.  Alessia Russo’s goal from a low cross gave the reigning champions hope and leveled the score as England rallied early in the second half.

In extra time, both teams had multiple chances, but the impasse continued, forcing a nerve-racking penalty shootout.  Hannah Hampton, the England goalkeeper, was the game’s hero after save two vital penalties, including one from Aitana Bonmatí, the current Ballon d’Or winner.

England won the European Championship for the second time in a row thanks to a cool-headed final penalty kick from Chloe Kelly, who notably scored the game-winning goal in the Euro 2022 final.

In addition to solidifying England’s position as a worldwide football powerhouse, the triumph is a historic first for the country since it is their first major international competition victory away from home.

Fans flocked to bars and public areas to celebrate the Lionesses’ incredible accomplishment, which was greeted with joy back home.
