The Ebonyi State Government has announced a minimum wage increase, raising salaries from ₦70,000 to ₦90,000.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, revealed this after Thursday’s State Executive Council meeting. He said the wage increase takes immediate effect and applies to all state workers.

Omebe explained that the Ebonyi minimum wage increase aims to improve worker welfare. He stressed that the decision is not political but a genuine commitment to employees.

The commissioner also confirmed that the government cleared pension and gratuity arrears for retirees dating back to 1996. He added that the verification of local government retirees is ongoing, and payments will begin once completed.

“If we can settle such debts, adding ₦20,000 to workers’ salaries is achievable,” Omebe said.

He continued, “The governor is a leader and a builder of both capacity and infrastructure. The government is anchored on the biblical people’s charter of needs mantra, which is leading the people according to their needs”

He described the governor as a leader focused on infrastructure and human capacity development. According to him, the administration follows a people’s charter of needs to deliver on priorities.

Omebe further disclosed that the council approved the implementation of the eight-year tenure policy for directors. He confirmed that directors who have served beyond the period would retire immediately.
