According to Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi is already thinking about leaving the ADC.
In order to run against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, joined other opposition lawmakers earlier in July to form the ADC as a coalition party.
Obi, who was still carrying the LP membership card, declared his intention to run for president in 2027 just two days after the launch. But Kachikwu believes Obi won’t be allowed to run for presidency on the ADC platform. According to him, the ADC structure is being packaged for Atiku’s presidential ambition.
Dumebi Kachikwu, who has been accusing opposition politicians, especially former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of stealing his party, stated on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that Obi is going to quit the coalition after realizing that the ADC is set up to support Atiku.
He stated: “The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Since I started warning people about what is happening, we can see what is happening within the coalition. Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaed for Atiku Ababakar. From our understanding, what we are seeing now is that he is looking in other directions, and other people who aspire to run now realise that the coalition was indeed no coalition. It was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition.”
The 2027 election will not allow for what he called “class exploitation” by political leaders, Kachikwu said, adding that the ADC will not be exploited for Atiku’s presidential ambition.
By making sure that Nigerians are aware of their political power as citizens, he pledged to work against the politicians.
