Nigerian music video director Pink has revealed that she quit acting after humiliating auditions left her discouraged and determined to forge her own path behind the camera.

In a recent Hip TV interview, Pink shared that she once dreamed of becoming an actress but gave up after repeated rejections and uncomfortable audition experiences.

Those moments, she said, inspired her to build her career in directing and cinematography instead.

“I wanted to be an actress but I didn’t know how to tell my parents,” she said.

“I started chasing it but felt humiliated at some point. During auditions, you know what happens. That was when I decided I wanted to be my own boss.”

Pink explained that she faced numerous rejections and discouraging offers during her early days.

“I got a lot of ‘nos’ and people saying, ‘come to this location’. I realized it wasn’t for me,” she said.

“At auditions, you’d stand in queues for hours, and it didn’t fit my vibe.”

Now a respected filmmaker, Pink admitted that being a director and cinematographer is far from easy.

“It’s hard. I’ve seen people try it and quit after the first day,” she said. “It takes sacrifice; even your social life. I worked for over five years before getting my big break.”

Born Praise Onyeagwalam, Pink entered the film and music video industry in 2020. She gained recognition after directing Chike’s hit Running To You featuring Simi.

Since then, she has worked with major Nigerian artists, including Mercy Chinwo, Lil Kesh, Naira Marley, and Wizkid.

Her creative excellence has earned her major accolades, including the 2023 AFRIMMA Award for Best Video Director and the 2025 Headies Award for Music Video of the Year.
