Ovation magazine founder and former presidential candidate Dele Momodu claims that Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), promised $30,000 each delegate during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2022 presidential primaries.
Momodu and Wike were among the contenders in the primary poll, but former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s nominee. Dele Momodu claimed in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, July 7, that a former Nigerian president had advised him against entering the primaries due to the magnitude of the financial incentive being employed.
“A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30k per delegate; $30k multiplied by 774 delegates.”
Wike came under fire from Momodu for what he called an unfair internal party struggle. “What I expected of him was that if you weren’t going to support a man, if you’re going to run, run a fair race, and let’s leave it there.”
Additionally, he voiced his concern about Wike’s behavior after joining the Tinubu administration, claiming that the former governor of Rivers State has changed negatively. “When a man who had been a nobody gets power, he begins to change slowly and steadily,” Momodu stated.
Momodu said, “The oppressed man respects only one man: the oppressor” referring to Wike’s political ascent under former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Additionally, he accused Wike of drinking too much, claiming that the minister had previously introduced him to Akeshi, a potent alcoholic beverage. “Wike is consumed by the power he holds. The spirit of power and money is demonic when not managed properly,” according to Momodu.
