The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially seen the resignation of veteran journalist Dele Momodu, who cited the party’s alleged antidemocratic takeover.  Momodu expressed his decision to leave the party with immediate effect in a letter dated July 17, 2025, which was sent to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” the letter states.  “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International and a former PDP presidential candidate, thanked the ward-level party leadership for their unwavering support over the years.

His switch to the ADC signals a dramatic change in Edo State politics and gives the ongoing realignments in the run-up to the general elections in 2027 more impetus.

Since joining the PDP in 2021, Momodu has taken an active part in party events and national debates.  His departure comes after a string of high-profile individuals quit because they were fed up with the internal dynamics of the party.
