The Osun State Government appointed Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
The state government said the move aims to raise funds and revitalize the sports industry in Osun State. It also reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Osogbo Township Stadium renovation, ensuring it meets Olympic standards once finished.
Osun’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, confirmed the appointment. He said Governor Adeleke’s administration aims to transform the stadium into a world-class venue for national and international events.
He said, “We are renovating and rehabilitating the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards, and we will complete the project soon.”
Adewusi added, “Plans are in advanced stages to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. The Sports Trust Fund will attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.”
He further revealed, “Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate to accept the role. His involvement will attract funding that will positively impact sports in Osun.”
