Chelsea signs Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £40 million ($54m) on Saturday, handing the winger a seven-year contract.

The 21-year-old Argentine watched from the stands as Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. The win put the Blues on top of the Premier League.

Garnacho said, “It’s an incredible moment for my family and me to join this great club, I can’t wait to get started”

He added: “I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special. We’re the best team in the world. It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.”

Garnacho played 144 games for United and scored 26 goals. His highlight came in the 2024 FA Cup final, where he netted in United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.

However, under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, he fell out of favor. The Coach excluded Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho from first-team training this season.

With this transfer, Chelsea’s spending this window has topped £250m. New arrivals include Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, and Jamie Gittens.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca now has more attacking depth. But Delap suffered a hamstring injury against Fulham, complicating Chelsea’s forward options.
