The family of the late Diogo Jota, who passed away last month at the age of 28, will receive a portion of Chelsea players’ Club World Cup bonuses.
Enzo Maresca’s 24-man team for the tournament is expected to receive a total bonus of £11.4 million for winning the competition, but in a stunning display of class, the Blues players have chosen to donate a portion of their bonuses to raise money for the family of Diogo Jota, who was tragically killed in a car crash with his brother Andre Silva.
It is unknown what percentage of the players’ bonuses will be given to Jota’s family. However, their total bonus was supposed to be reduced by tax and social security costs before their generous donations to Jota’s family.
The Kop club will honor the late Jota with a minute’s silence before their Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Friday. The players will wear a tribute for their former team-mate in every game of the 2025-26 season in the form of a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts.
Jota’s No. 20 shirt has been retired by the club across all levels in a heartfelt tribute to Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the Reds.
