Ahead of the 17th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government, which is set for 6th and 7th day of July 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

At 8:45 p.m. on Friday, the president’s plane landed at the Galeão Air Force Base, where he was welcomed by the base commander, Ambassador Carlos Sergio Sobral Duarte, Brazil’s deputy minister for Africa and the Middle East, and the deputy minister for trade promotion, science, technology, innovation, and culture.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on Saturday, states that Tinubu is in the South American nation at President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva’s invitation.

According to the statement, President Tinubu will speak at a plenary session with other world leaders about Nigeria’s continuous economic reforms and initiatives to put the nation back in a position to compete globally. 

Additionally, he is anticipated to interact with possible investors in sectors like alternative energy, solid minerals, agriculture, and healthcare.

“At the BRICS Summit, the President will participate in a plenary session and deliver an address on Nigeria’s ongoing reforms to reposition the economy for global competitiveness” , the statement read in part.

“In order to take advantage of the nation’s prospects in solid minerals, alternative energy, healthcare, and agriculture, he will also draw in investors. The BRICS political negotiators discussed ways to coordinate further commitments to fight socially determined diseases, artificial intelligence governance, and climate finance prior to the Leaders’ Summit.  Their main goal was to offer practical answers to the structural problems the Global South was facing”

Five state governors join President Tinubu: Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Hyacinth Alia (Benue).
