The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in 20 of 23 local government areas in the Rivers State elections. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which governs the state, managed to win only three LGAs.
In a major upset, the opposition also defeated Governor Siminalayi Fubara in his home LGA, Opobo-Nkoro. Dr. Michael Odey, chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
