Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has addressed his relationship with fellow comic Bright “Basketmouth” Okpocha. Though once frequent collaborators, both comedians now mostly focus on their own independent shows.
In a recent interview, Bovi emphasized that there is no hostility between them. Instead, he explained that shifting personal and professional goals led them to different paths.
“We are cool. Nothing happened,” Bovi said. “Interests changed, especially for me. I wanted to focus, spend more time with family. I wanted to also elevate myself.”
The 46-year-old comedian added that he often seeks new challenges to avoid creative boredom. This has pushed him to pursue acting, television projects, and solo shows.
“I easily get bored with things. When I do something for too long, I try to do something else. As you know, I started film. I went back to TV. I wanted to build my own brand,” he explained.
Bovi also noted that his ability to independently draw large crowds made him focus more on personal shows instead of joint events. “When I host shows at Eko Hotels and it fills up, why should I go and share money? Why should we be many and do one show?” he said.
In 2023, Bovi disclosed that he deliberately prioritized strengthening his brand and career. That shift, he explained, naturally reduced his professional connection with Basketmouth.
Despite the separation in their career focus, Bovi stressed again that the two comedians remain on good terms.
