The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all Nigerian public universities. The announcement came on Sunday during a press briefing at the University of Abuja, led by ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna.

“Compatriots of the press, it goes without saying that there is nothing sufficient on ground to stop the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike at the expiry of the 14-day notice given on the 28th September 2025,” Piwuna said.

He added, “Consequently, ASUU directs all its branches to withdraw their services starting midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.” The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting.”

The ASUU two-week strike follows another deadlock in talks between the Federal Government and university lecturers. Despite several meetings to prevent further disruption in higher institutions, both sides remain divided on key issues.

According to Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, the government has entered its final phase of negotiations with ASUU and other unions to address outstanding issues concerning funding, welfare, and the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.

Alausa noted that President Tinubu’s administration had taken steps to ease tensions by approving ₦50 billion for Earned Academic Allowances and another ₦150 billion for needs assessment. The funds, he said, would be released in three installments.

As the ASUU two-week strike begins, academic activities across Nigerian universities will halt until both sides reach a resolution.
