According to Alimodu Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, Peter Obi won the 2023 Lagos state presidential election because there are more Igbos living in the SouthWest state than any other ethnicity. In his appearance on Channels TV Monday evening, sheriff made this claim while discounting the likelihood that the ADC will overthrow the current APC party.

He claims that because the ADC does not control any states, they are unable to win a presidential election. The host brought up the fact that, despite not controlling any states, Peter Obi’s Labour party received the most votes in Lagos during the 2023 presidential election.

He said, ‘’The problem of Peter Obi is that he ran on the platform of his party and his tribe, the Igbos. They voted for him. They will always do that.”

“There are more Igbos in Lagos than other tribes. I lived in Lagos all part of my life since I left England in 1980. Lagos is occupied by the Igbos'” Sheriff stated in response to a follow-up comment that Obi won Lagos state, which is not a South Eastern state.

In response to the question of whether any Yorubas cast ballots for Obi in the election, he stated “If they are, they are very small.”
