Aisha Yesufu, a political activist and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, has promised to oppose Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, should he agree to serve as a running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

Yesufu, a fervent follower of the former governor of Anambra State, adopted the position when a number of opposition leaders, including Obi, formed a coalition and joined the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in anticipation of the next election.

In a widely shared video on social media on Friday, Yesufu stated that she would oppose any ticket that has Obi as a running mate in the 2027 presidential election, amid rumors that the coalition is likely to nominate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate with Obi as his running mate.

In the video, Yesufu stated, “I will work against that ticket in my little capacity if Peter Obi becomes a running mate to anyone in 2027.”

She stated that her position is based on her belief that women are frequently assigned to deputy roles and that Obi would be more appropriate as a presidential candidate than a running mate.
