The African Democratic Congress (ADC) criticized the APC and PDP for zoning their 2027 presidential tickets two years before the election.
ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief: “The general election is still in 2027; it’s still two years away.”
He added: “Why are we so preoccupied? Nigerians now see political elites as uncaring across party lines.”
At its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the PDP zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. The party retained its chairmanship in the North.
Earlier in May, 22 APC governors and key groups endorsed President Bola Tinubu, from the South, as their sole 2027 candidate. Both parties defended zoning as part of Nigeria’s north-south power rotation.
The ADC alliance, which includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, condemned both decisions. Abdullahi accused the PDP of playing political games.
“They are very experienced people, and they know the implications of revealing plans too early,” he said.
Abdullahi continued: “It’s either they are playing a predetermined game or bargaining for candidates. They’ve been shopping for who should emerge.”
He stressed that the ADC has strong presidential hopefuls. “When people say this coalition was built for one candidate, I disagree,” Abdullahi stated.
He noted: “Atiku Abubakar just declared his intention to run for president. If the coalition existed for him alone, why announce it?”
Abdullahi added: “We also have Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and others. They all have equal opportunities in this coalition.”
