Italian football giants AC Milan have opened preliminary talks with Nigerian international Victor Boniface over a potential summer transfer, fueling speculation that the Bayer Leverkusen forward could be on the move after two impressive seasons in the Bundesliga.

Boniface, 24, remains one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe despite fitness concerns that limited his impact in the latter part of the 2024/25 season. The forward netted 21 goals during Leverkusen’s treble-winning campaign in 2023/24 and has now attracted strong interest from Milan, who are aiming to rebuild under Massimiliano Allegri.

Renowned Italian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri confirmed Monday that talks have commenced between Milan and Boniface’s representatives. “The Nigerian striker has opened the door to a permanent move to the Rossoneri as talks with Boniface’s side have already taken place,” Tavolieri posted on X.

Bayer Leverkusen, who currently favour Patrick Schick as their primary striker, are reportedly open to selling Victor Boniface if a suitable offer arrives this summer. Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Leverkusen may be willing to do business for a fee in the region of €30-40 million, significantly less than the €60 million price tag once quoted during a rumored move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr in January.

AC Milan’s interest in Boniface is not new. The striker notably scored the winning goal against Milan during a Champions League group-stage match in October 2024, leaving a lasting impression on the club’s management. Milan technical director Igli Tare is believed to be a long-time admirer of Boniface’s power, movement, and tactical flexibility, traits Milan are keen to add to their attacking setup.

With Milan actively seeking a dynamic No. 9 this transfer window, Boniface fits the profile of a forward who can lead the line or play in a dual-striker system. Despite being plagued by muscle injuries last season, his proven scoring record and physical presence remain highly attractive for the Rossoneri.

Victor Boniface’s rise from Bodø/Glimt (Norway) to Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgium) and then to Bundesliga glory with Leverkusen has made him one of Nigeria’s standout exports in recent years. Should a deal materialize, the Super Eagles striker would become the latest Nigerian to feature in Serie A, following in the footsteps of players like Obafemi Martins, Nwankwo Kanu, and Victor Osimhen.

For now, negotiations continue, but all signs point to Milan making a serious play for Boniface before the new season begins.
