In a recent announcement, telecom operator 9mobile revealed a new brand identity and business plan, rebranding as T2, a bold, young, and innovative digital lifestyle brand with a renewed mission to drive Nigeria’s digital economy. Chief executive officer Obafemi Banigbe of 9mobile (now T2), speaking at the brand relaunch event in Lagos on Friday, said the unveiling was more than a mere cosmetic makeover.
He said, “This is not just a brand unveiling, it is the beginning of a whole new chapter in our history. We are no longer who we were; we are becoming something greater, more ambitious, and more in tune with the future”
According to Banigbe, the goal of the change is to establish 9mobile as a tech-driven, customer-focused, and digitally nimble company. He declared, “We are becoming a platform for possibilities, a connector of dreams, and a catalyst for the startup ecosystem, for creatives, for remote workers, and for every Nigerian looking to do more.”
The dynamism and resilience of Nigeria’s youth are reflected in the telecom company’s new identity, he emphasized. “Across Nigeria, we see the hunger for speed, access, relevance, and creativity. That is why we are embracing a digital-first approach: leaner, faster, smarter, so we can serve our customers better,” Banigbe stated.
With the relaunch, 9mobile is reaffirming its commitment to an innovative, data-driven business model. Banigbe claims that the business is developing into a fully digital operator that is data-driven, cloud-native, and API-ready.
According to him, this change will allow the business to use advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to provide highly customized services and launch new products more quickly.
He said, “In today’s world, the winners are not the biggest but the boldest. We are designing our systems to empower our customers with real-time support, self-service tools, and simplified processes, all from the palm of their hands”
Chief Executive Officer, Banigbe, acknowledged the company’s past setbacks but claimed that they have since grown stronger, with scars proving their tenacity. He emphasized that the customer experience is now the center of the business and that the rebrand is about substance rather than just image.
“It is not just an image makeover. We are playing to win. Customer experience will no longer be a department, it becomes the business,” he said, adding that 9mobile’s future will be defined by local relevance, simplicity, and emotional connection,” the CEO stressed.
Banigbe promised to provide customers with clear, quick, and passionate service while adhering to simplicity, emotional connection, and local relevance. He expressed gratitude to shareholders, employees, partners, customers, and regulators for their support.
“We want to serve you boldly. We want to serve you with clarity, with speed, and with heartfelt passion. We thank you for holding us accountable. That is why we exist.
“To every Nigerian dreaming of something better, this rebrand is for you. Let it remind you that you too can reimagine, rebuild, and relaunch,” he concluded.
