Nigeria’s D’Tigress won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan after beating Mali 78-64 to maintain their continental supremacy.
They have now won seven titles overall and five in a row, bringing their winning streak in the competition to 29 games since 2017.
With 19 points from Amy Okonkwo and 20 from Ezinne Kalu, Nigeria overcame a 21–26 deficit in the first quarter to tie the score at 41–41 at the half.
Promise Amukamara and Murjanatu Musa’s consistent performance, along with Victoria Macaulay’s strong bench assistance, helped flip momentum.
D’Tigress outscored Mali 20–15 in a crucial third quarter, led by Kalu’s poise and Okonkwo’s big contributions. Nigeria’s decisive 17–8 surge in the closing minutes clinched the victory.
A day after a nail-biting semifinal victory against Senegal, coach Rena Wakama, the first female coach to lead D’Tigress to a championship in 2023, added another championship to her record by leading a youthful and gifted squad past fierce opposition.
